As you know for the first quarter of 2016, Peak Performance in conjunction with 4 Luv Of The Game (a charity that collects used or new baseball equipment for underprivileged children in the Dominican Republic) collected twenty five deluxe corrugated moving boxes filled with equipment. This is the beginning of a series of post to document the Journey of how the equipment made an impact in the Dominican Republic community.
Olmer Cruz 4 Luv Of The Game Missionary, met with a local child from the Palmar community in the Dominican Republic. Robertico, showed Olmer the alternative way they compensate for not having the adequate baseballs. These clever children created their own baseball by weaving plenty of rubber bands together and covering it with layers of socks.
Olmer reports upon his first arrival at a church in the Dominican Republic community, where he would be serving God for the next few months. His attention was captivated by a group of children playing baseball. The group consisted of seven young kids with a bat that they crafted by hand. Astonished, Olmer watched the children play with no footwear on their feet. After conversation had begun, Olmer questioned the group about the bat. The bat to the children represented an immense amount of pride, an item which they had made with their bare hands; taking turns to limit the amount of lacerations and cuts during the process. That one bat was shared
amongst seven children and was there prized possession.
Olmer befriended a child named Kevin. When Olmer asked Kevin what his plans were, he said he was gong to play baseball, a sport for which he had a passion. Olmer noticed Kevin didn’t have a baseball uniform. He proceeded to ask him if he had any proper baseball equipment , Kevin said “no.” Olmer surprised Kevin by giving him donations from 4 Luv Of The Game. Excited and proud, Kevin immediately changed into his new outfit. Kevin’s father expressed how ecstatic his son was and how, that night he wanted to sleep with his uniform beside his bed.
Stay on board for the next portion of Olmer’s journey as 4 Luv Of The Game uplifts more than just one community in the Dominican Republic.
