Samantha A. thought that after getting surgery on a tendon in her calf, she wouldn’t be able to do what she loves anymore. As a dedicated runner, this devastated Samantha. After her surgery, a friend referred her to Peak Performance in Island Park for her rehabilitation. In this inspiring recovery, we wanted to hear directly from Samantha, read her story below:
“I am a runner. Two weeks after I ran the 2016 NYC Marathon, I was near tears while on a short walk with a friend. In March 2017 I had surgery to repair, what turned out to be (found during surgery) a shredded peroneal tendon in my calf. Prior to the surgery (when we thought it was simply some torn ligaments in my ankle) I could no longer walk, drive, or do any other normal everyday activities without pain, let alone work out.
Since starting PT in mid-May I have been able to resume all normal activities (including traveling for work again) and working out.
With the support of Dan, V and the rest of the Island Park PT Team, I have went from being scared to walk without crutches (in a walking boot), to gearing up for 5K and half marathons in 2018!
My mobility is almost back to normal, I have minimal pain, and my strength slowly came back during marathon training. I would never have gotten back to form without the team I worked with.
V (left), John(middle), Dan( right) and the rest of the team at Island Park made my three-days-per-week visits rather enjoyable throughout the nearly 7 months I was in physical therapy. My Physical Therapist, Dan, challenged me but didn’t push me. They knew my strengths and weaknesses and when we started plyometrics work (speed-strength jump training), they laughed along with me as I worked to land on my feet. It’s also been very encouraging when other patients make offhand comments about my fitness level and skill, about how strong I look as I bound around the office working to get stronger every visit and every day.
Thank you Peak Performance!!!”
