The Russian doping program has caused a great amount of controversy in the 2016 Olympic season. The International Olympic Committee gathered and made their decision on banning nearly one third of Russian athletes permitted to enter the olympics. The drug induced process of doping placed many of the athletes under close analyzation and scrutiny as they attempted to prove their innocence to the International Olympic Committee(IOC). Vigorous and extensive testing was performed on the Russian competitors in order to verify that they were playing a fair game. The track and field team was amongst the first to experience banning initially in the entire process than following numerous other athletes from other teams that were eventually banned. However, now the Russian team pleads their innocence and claims that they are the cleanest team competing in the Olympic season. The outcome resulted in 271 Russian athletes allowed to compete which is still a significant loss from the 389 expected athletes to enter, but Russia claims to still feel confident in their teams performance.
